Dear Hope Christian College,
So, I’ve done it, I’ve had my first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and booked my second for a couple of months’ time. I would like to encourage you if you are eligible now, or when you become eligible to have the vaccine that is available to you. I believe that it is part of our road out of the pandemic.
I am sure that you are aware that all around the world there are countries which are in the grip of severe COVID-19 crises. It is both sad and alarming to see the way this world disaster continues to unfold. Then there is the toll that this has taken on society. Whole economies groan under the strain of sickness, of lockdowns, of people voluntarily staying away from shops, industries, entertainment and every kind of economic activity. Is anyone really thinking about travel at the moment? The mental-emotional strain on society is hard to even understand. One of my own children who works for Defence got sent overseas around the time the pandemic was really taking hold. We don’t know when we will see them again. Face-time gets a work out. Many of you also have a story like this to tell.
And so, I got vaccinated. As well as looking after my own health, I believe that it is the responsible thing to do. COVID-19 never really left Australia, we just got it under control and quarantined it. It is possible that when we open up our international borders it could become more widespread, even in Australia. As for me, well, I’m vaccinated now, and when the booster is available, I’ll be lining up for both of my COVID and Flu vaccines. Maybe they will be able to give a combination vaccine. I’d certainly be interested in that.
So, please allow me to encourage you, if you are eligible now, get vaccinated, and if you are not eligible yet, when you are, get vaccinated. I believe that it is the responsible thing to do.
Blessings in the name of Jesus,
Dominic Hopps
